Concert Details and Updates

Hello all!

As many of you know, I wasn't able to be at school for the last week due to family illness. But, that being said, I'm back today and ready to continue learning and growing with your students! I offer many thanks to Ms. Caeli Austin and Ms. Kristin Newmann, who generously leant both their voices and their musical training in order to cover my music classes. I'm sure your children had a fantastic time learning with these wonderful women.

Now, on to the fun stuff!

Our concert will be taking place on Wednesday, 18 November. It will be held at the Higley Performing Arts Center located at 4132 E Pecos Rd, Gilbert, AZ, 85295 (Pecos and Recker). I got the chance to tour the building, and it is absolutely beautiful. It will be a real treat for our students to be able to perform in such a wonderful space.

The K-2 concert will begin at 5:30 PM, although we humbly ask that students arrive at 4:45 so that they may practice getting on and off stage. If you have students in 3-5, their concert will begin at 7 PM, with students arriving at 6:30.

Just as a heads up, parking immediate to the building will be limited. There are other parking lots which will be used, but they are about a 3-5 minute walk away. To accommodate all of our parents and other friends and family who want to be a part of this joyous occasion in their children's lives, we again, humbly request that all families who are not staying for the 3-5 concert (those who only have children in K-2) make a timely exit after the concert is finished so that parking will be available to those who are arriving at 6:30.

Many of your children have suggested that they would like to (or are currently) practice(ing) their concert music at home. To make this easier for both your children and yourself, I will include a song list at the end of this post and send home sheet music tomorrow.

Finally, concert apparel and expectations:

Girls: White blouse, black skirt, black tights, black shoes, hair neatly combed and/or styled.
Boys: White button up, black pants, black belt, black shoes, hair neatly combed and/or styled.

For girls, I am not overly concerned if they wear a black dress if they do not have access to a white blouse. The idea is for everyone to look uniform and professional, so, as long as everyone is somewhere within the guidelines, everything will be fine.

As for expectations, we have spoken at length in class about proper concert etiquette, by which I mean not talking to their neighbors on stage, standing still and straight when singing and following all directions from either myself, Mrs. Kaye or HPAC staff. Please remind students of these expectations, as I will in class.

Let me just say how appreciative I am to have this opportunity. Seeing the delight on the students' faces when we talk about the concert, I feel that I must have the best job in the world. Thank you again for allowing me this opportunity, and for supporting myself and the music program here at Great Hearts.

As ever, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at MGalbraith@ArchwayArete.org.

Sincerely,
Madison Galbraith
